Abstract:
This study develops a face/eye-based measurement framework based on S-O-R and information foraging theories to capture purchase intention in Taiwan’s mobile commerce. Using close-range, low-angle smartphone recordings, face and eye data (3 minutes each) were collected from 6 participants across four platforms: traditional internet shopping, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Rather than making population-level claims, this study tests the feasibility of proposed indices for future large-sample validation.Using OpenFace outputs, weighted indices were constructed, including Purchase Intention AU, Browsing AU, Eye Attention, Eye Exploration, Movement Speed, and an integrated Face-Eye Response Index. Analysis within a $pm$5-second window around purchase intention events revealed temporally meaningful signals varying by platform: traditional shopping and Facebook showed anticipatory tendencies, Instagram showed mixed responses, and TikTok exhibited reactive, post-event patterns. This initial framework provides a methodological basis for mobile-commerce behavioral tracking despite low-angle recording limitations.
