Taiwan’s AI Expertise Gains Recognition in Thailand: National University of Kaohsiung Shares Talent Cultivation Experience with Leading Institutions

As the global AI wave continues to reshape industries worldwide, Taiwan’s higher education capabilities are rapidly expanding into Southeast Asia. The Department of Information Management and the Department of Asia-Pacific Industrial and Business Management at National University of Kaohsiung (NUK) have jointly promoted interdisciplinary international initiatives, connecting with professional partners and sister universities to bring Taiwan’s expertise in AI education, digital transformation, and interdisciplinary talent cultivation to Southeast Asia, demonstrating Taiwan’s international competitiveness and AI soft power in higher education.

From May 8 to May 12, NUK led a five-day international exchange delegation to Thailand. The delegation was headed by Professor Pao-Tiao Chuang from the Department of Asia-Pacific Industrial and Business Management and Professor I-Hsien Ting from the Department of Information Management. Student representatives included Yun-Hsiu Liu and Ching-Yu Kao from the Department of Information Management, as well as Li-Peng Tsai and Wen-Yi Liu from the Department of Asia-Pacific Industrial and Business Management. Through the support of overseas alumni networks, the delegation successfully connected with local academic and industrial communities, further strengthening international collaboration and highlighting the significant global influence of NUK alumni.

The first stop of the exchange program was Thai Son Li Packaging & Printing Co., Ltd., where the delegation gained insights into the latest developments in smart manufacturing, packaging and printing technologies, and international supply chain management in Thailand. Discussions focused on AI implementation, digital transformation, and cross-border industrial collaboration. In response to the rapid global evolution of AI industries, NUK faculty and students also shared Taiwan’s practical experiences in AI applications and digital management, attracting strong interest from industry representatives. Through firsthand observation of Southeast Asian market trends, students were able to directly experience how AI technologies are transforming business operations and global industrial structures.

For academic exchanges, the delegation visited several partner institutions, including Wells International School, Srinakharinwirot University, and Bangkok University. Both sides exchanged ideas and achievements related to AI applications, smart management, interdisciplinary talent cultivation, and international education cooperation. Discussions also covered future opportunities such as student exchange programs, short-term overseas study programs, dual-degree collaborations, and international joint projects, opening new possibilities for educational cooperation between Taiwan and Thailand.

Professor I-Hsien Ting noted that in the AI era, talent competitiveness is no longer confined to a single discipline, but increasingly emphasizes interdisciplinary integration and global mobility. He stated that the purpose of this initiative is to cultivate a new generation of talents equipped with AI literacy, cross-cultural communication skills, and international perspectives through international exchanges, enabling students to remain competitive in an increasingly globalized world.

Professor Pao-Tiao Chuang also emphasized that NUK will continue to deepen partnerships with overseas sister universities and enterprises while leveraging alumni networks to promote more international exchange initiatives, allowing Taiwan’s higher education strengths and AI talent cultivation models to gain greater international visibility.

Participating students shared that the Thailand exchange program not only broadened their international perspectives but also allowed them to witness the rapid digital transformation occurring across Southeast Asian industries. They also recognized the advantages and influence of Taiwan’s AI education and technological applications in international exchanges, which provided significant inspiration for their future career development and international collaboration capabilities.
